LASIK Surgery: LASIK is the most popular and in-demand laser refractive surgery for rectifying issues with vision. LASIK or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis is viewed as a replacement for glasses or lenses. In order to improve the vision, during LASIK, a specialised cutting laser is used to change the shape of the cornea, which is the dome-shaped transparent tissue at the eye’s front.
PRK: In PRK or Photorefractive Keratectomy, the epithelium or top layer is not formed into a flap, but rather scraped away. This scraping will cause temporary pain and blurred vision, which will take about three to four days to heal. However, the theoretical benefits offered by PRK manage to outweigh these disadvantages. LASIK surgery is also a preferable choice over PRK for treating nearsightedness.
Femto LASIK: Femto LASIK or Femtosecond-assisted laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis surgery is a type of laser eye surgery. This procedure is done to change the structure of the cornea for treating issues with vision and other refractory operations.
LASIK vs PRK
LASIK and PRK are refractive eye surgeries that are usually done to cure conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. In both LASIK and PRK, the shape of the cornea is changed to adjust its focus on light so that the vision gets better. But, both the procedures do it differently. In LASIK surgery, a little flap of tissue is made in the cornea and in PRK, the outer layer of cornea is removed and it gradually regrows. Both procedures have their positives and negatives.
