Gynecomastia, sometimes referred to as man boobs, is a growth in breast gland tissue in boys or men that is caused by an estrogen and testosterone hormonal imbalance. One or both breasts may be affected by gynecomastia.
Breast soreness and tenderness
Unnatural enlargement of the size & shape of the breasts
Development of lumps around the nipples
Nipple discharge from one or both breasts
Sensitivity of nipple when rubbed against clothes
Typically, an imbalance of the feminine hormone oestrogen and the male hormone testosterone results in breast growth among men. Both sorts of hormones are present in males' bodies. Males may develop larger breasts as a result of changes in the body's use or sensitivity to these hormones, as well as changes in their levels. Gynecomastia develops when oestrogen hormone levels rise and testosterone hormone levels fall for some reason.
Being obese or having excessive body weight is another common cause of gynecomastia. Extra weight can lead to increased levels of oestrogen in the male body and can cause breast tissue to grow. Also, overweight men are more likely to have extra fat, enlarging the breast tissue.
Sometimes newborn baby boys have enlarged breasts to a certain extent. Breast development in neonates is caused by exposure to the mother's oestrogen. Breast buds, which are enlarged breasts at birth, are present in about 50% of newborn boys. They can stay longer, but usually, disappear in two to six months.
At puberty, boys’ hormone levels vary and in case of a drop in testosterone, oestrogen can lead to the growth of breast tissue. This is why many teenage boys may have breast enlargement to some degree. Teenage gynecomastia wears off when one starts growing and the hormone levels stabilise.
When growing older, men start producing less testosterone and gain more body fat, resulting in enhanced production of oestrogen, thereby, gynecomastia.
Hormonal imbalance from falling levels of testosterone and rising oestrogen levels
Extra weight can lead to increased levels of oestrogen and cause breast tissue to grow
Exposure to the mother's oestrogen can cause breast development in newborns
Irregular variation in hormonal levels during puberty
Decreased production of testosterone with growing age
Side-effects of certain drugs
Only a very slight degree of breast enlargement is present in this grade. Around the areola, a little button of tissue begins to develop. There won't be much chest swelling, and it won't be visible when you're dressed.
Male breast tissues at this grade level enlarge to fill the chest's width. Even after the breast tissues have nearly entirely engulfed the pectoral muscles, the edges are still not very visible.
The breast tissues are totally visible through clothing at this moderate stage of breast growth. The extra skin is getting bigger and more noticeable. At this point, the breasts are also firmer.
Breast development is practically finished at this grade level. It is the most severe stage since there is a great deal of extra skin, which interferes with the person's daily activities.
Gynecomastia can have an adverse effect on a patient's physical and mental health if it is not treated. Gynecomastia, though, might not go away on its own, and consulting a cosmetic surgeon to have your appearance reshaped can have a lot of emotional and social advantages if the way your chest looks and feels is limiting your self-confidence or lowering your sense of self-worth.
Chronic back pain can be caused by the pressure the ongoing breast expansion puts on the back muscles, which may not be strong enough to support it.
Repeated escalation may result in spinal deformities and abnormal sitting and standing postures.
Most men are hesitant and self-conscious when it comes to their mental health because of their physical looks. Depression and social anxiety are the repercussions of this.
